Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth is an influential figure in World History especially in regards to human rights and individual rights.

I was working on interpreting black and white images into color. This is painting I chose a palette of varying tones of two colors- brown and blue. The image of her is from a small black and white photo in a text book. I sketched it onto cotton fabric and then painted the fabric. It will be quilted along the contours of her clothing and facial features.

Tree Climb

I was working on interpreting black and white images into color. This is painting I chose a palette of varying tones of blue. I first sketched the design onto cotton fabric and then hand painted the fabric. I then quilted along the contours of his clothing, guiter 'Lucille' and his facial features. It was coincidental that I chose to use 'blues' for this amazing Blues artist.
